Wild lx Research Proposal (Wild lx 研究报告提案)

Name: wild lx research

Proposer: Elsa

Date: 2024/09/23

Background

The diversity and complexity of current grant programs make it difficult for many to gain a deep understanding of them, including how to apply for grants effectively, design sustainable operational models, and utilize funds efficiently. At the same time, grant providers are constantly optimizing their processes and standards to maximize the support for their ecosystems. Therefore, Wild LX has decided to conduct a comprehensive analysis of various grant programs and their models to help everyone better understand the current state of grants and develop effective strategies in response.

Research Topic

Comprehensive Analysis of Different Grant Programs and Their Models

Objectives

  • Analyze and compare different grant programs to improve the effectiveness and sustainability of future grant programs.
  • Optimize fund allocation to enhance the efficiency of fund utilization.
  • Mitigate risks and promote the long-term sustainability of projects.
  • Identify new opportunities for development.

Research Subjects

Optimism Season Grants, Gitcoin GR20, Arb Grants, and ESP, among others.

Key Focus Areas

  • Grants within the Optimism ecosystem.
  • Grants for Layer 2 ecosystems (Base, Arb, Mode, etc.).
  • Other Layer 1 ecosystem grants (SOL).
  • Foundation-led grant programs (Ethereum Foundation).
  • Community-driven grant programs (Gitcoin Quadratic Funding).

Differences from Existing Research

  • Timeliness: Focus on the latest grant programs to understand changes in funding standards, scale, and beneficiaries, discover new trends, and keep an eye on newly emerging projects in the industry.
  • Integration with LXDAO’s Actual Situation: By systematically studying the types of projects funded, the scale of grants, and funding trends, we can identify innovative or in-demand projects, considering whether they can help LXDAO improve existing products or discover new needs.
  • Inclusion of Unfunded Projects/Low Vote-Count Projects: While existing analyses focus on funded projects, we will analyze some types of projects that were not favored and the reasons behind it, helping us avoid similar situations.
  • Secondary Use of Grant Funds: Tracking the flow of funds, their utilization, and the efficiency of their use.

Project Plan

Weeks 1-2: Initial Research and Data Collection

  • Collect official documents, blogs, whitepapers, etc., for various grant programs.
  • Refer to existing case studies and academic articles.

Deliverable: 10+ curated project documents.

Weeks 3-4: Data Sorting and Preliminary Analysis

  • Data classification and screening.
  • Data analysis.

Deliverable: Preliminary visual charts.

Weeks 5-6: Comparative Report on Different Grants

  • Comparative analysis of different grant models.
  • Case studies: Analysis of failed cases.
  • Fund utilization: Secondary use of funds.

Deliverable: Preliminary report.

Weeks 7-8: Final Report and Recommendations

Deliverable: Complete grants analysis report.

Weeks 9-10: Community Iteration

Deliver results to the community, share data on GitHub.

Achievements

  • Comprehensive grants analysis report.
  • Comparative analysis of different grant programs.
  • Analysis of 5+ grant program failures.
  • Evaluation of grant program effectiveness.
  • Visualized data analysis results (charts, etc.).

Commitment

  • After the report is published, it will be discussed on the LXDAO forum, and community feedback will be collected and integrated.
  • Open-source data analysis, documentation, and reports will be provided on GitHub for reference in future community research.

Budget

Expected expenditure for the quarter: 1500*3 = 4500 LXPU
1 LXPU = 0.8 U + 0.2 LXP

Team Setup

PM: Elsa, responsible for overall planning, resource management, time control, and delivery of results.

Members: None currently, recruitment to follow.

Timeline

Expected duration: 10 weeks, with an additional two-week extension if further work is required.

Conclusion

We have done extensive preparatory work for this research report and developed a clear and feasible plan. By collecting a wide range of relevant data and case studies, we will ensure the depth and comprehensiveness of the research. We are aligning this research process with the actual needs of LXDAO to ensure that the findings are not only of theoretical value but also provide practical assistance to the community. We believe this research will be beneficial to the community.

Wild LX’s work depends on your help and support. We hope community members will support and trust Wild LX. We look forward to working together to contribute to the community’s development.

  • Optimism 生态系统资助
  • L2 生态系统资助(Base,Arb, Mode 等)

I would suggest applying for more grants and donation from our partners and external orgs. We have some partners would like to provide research grants like Metagov, BlockBooster, etc.

I think it’s a good Grants analysis report, with a few elements that we may need to make distinctions on later research, such as

Yeah, agree. And we need to make sure our report’s quality is as good as others.
