LXDAO Membership Makeover: Migrating to the Optimism Network

TL;DR

Migrate LXP, Buidler Card, Badge, Contribution Record, Treasury Management, etc. to the Optimism Network to form a unified Membership Management System, thus forming a superchain-based Contributor Onboarding and Contribution Network.

Background

The current problem is that LXP, MemberFirstBadge, ExperBadge, Buidler Card, Treasury, etc. all exist in different networks, which makes the synchronisation of blocks generated before different networks untimely, and also does not facilitate the project management of Membership afterwards.

Current problems

Buidler Card mainnet interaction cost is too high.

Buidler Card is the SBT of LXDAO, owning a Buidler Card means you own the core governance of LXDAO, you can participate in the governance of LXDAO, initiate proposals and votes, and decide the overall development direction of LXDAO.

However, in the current situation, the cost of interacting with a Gas on the main EtherNet is nearly a dozen dollars, and in the case of network congestion, the cost can be as high as dozens of dollars or even hundreds of dollars, which is unfavourable for a DAO with thousands or even tens of thousands of members who have obtained Buidler Cards in the future by contributing deeply to the LXDAO.

Some member feedback on the Buidler Card

The Polygon network does not receive effective ecological support.

LXP and Badge are currently on the Polygon network and are not supported by the Polygon ecosystem, and the only benefit they currently bring to LXDAO is lower Gas rates.

It is difficult to develop an automated and efficient member onboarding and contribution process.

The contribution record is recorded through Fairshraing, and the member’s FirstBadge is in Polygon, if some interactions are involved in the future, cross-chain operations are required, which is a complicated process and not easy to manage.

I propose to categorise the current LXDAO Membership system and migrate it to the Optimism network.

Why Migrate to the Optimism Network?

1. Optimism’s long-term goals are highly aligned with LXDAO’s long-term goals.

Optimism’s long-term goal is to achieve impact = profit for the hyperchain network and public goods, and LXDAO’s goal is to achieve public goods sustainability, which is consistent in terms of goals.

2. Optimism Ecological Construction

Optimism currently has many construction plans for its own superchain network, including the construction of superchain network (OP 2024 will support the birth of 5~10 superchains), Optimism Token House Grants: providing a large amount of OP funds to subsidise the construction of OP ecosystems, and RetroPGF, which supports the construction of public goods ecosystems based on superchain networks or other ecosystems. RetroPGF to support the construction of public goods ecosystems based on superchain networks or other ecosystems

3. Gas fees are low

Optimism’s interactions currently around $0.05.

4. Optimism’s funding for LXDAO

In the previous RetroPGF#3, Optimism funded LXDAO with 32,795 OPs, which is a great support to LXDAO and one of the rewards for LXDAO’s public goods impact.

In Optimism Season 5 Grants, I applied for the Grants on behalf of LXDAO, which contains 20,000 OPs for funding, and it mentions about the Membership migration plan, and the proposal is now in the final review stage.

What is the SuperChain Onboarding and Contribution Network?

LXDAO has already worked out a set of efficient and decentralised project management process in previous project development and governance, which involves member joining, contribution logging, contribution distribution, gaining identity, gaining governance, applying for proposals, project management, etc. This is a set of effective strategies, and we will propose that in the future, any builder who wants to contribute to Web3, may In the future, we will propose that any builder who wants to contribute to Web3 can adopt LXDAO’s process and become an on-boarding and contributing network of superchain builders.

Details

After migrating to Optimism, some database checks will be done to match the data.

The details of the development are still under discussion.

Team Setting

Currently Marcus is in charge of PM, Marcus will be sorting out the project and recruiting people.

I will set up a Membership migration team within LXDAO with the help of the Expert and Forge working groups. We will consult with people in the early stage to determine the workload, and if the workload is relatively small, I will apply for a portion of the Bounty to be used for the development budget from the Expert and Forge working groups, and if the workload is relatively large, I will apply for an additional portion of the budget.

Timeline

The migration will be completed by mid-May, which is the application point for the Optimism Retro Funding onchain builder.

Budgets And Distribution

The workload is being evaluated and will be determined based on the workload
