Let's make LXDAO English again!

From what I can see, we are using Chinese on Forum and Telegram more often and not a chance to change it back to English as before. In the beginning, we both agree to use English on Forum as much as possible.

I won’t deny that I used Chinese often on Forum recently, after all, it is my native language. But I think we both know the importance of learning and using English, after all, LX belongs to the whole universe, including aliens if they have LX.

So, I would suggest all members using English on Forum, start from know, and would like to provide some suggestions:

First, English is very essential skills for Web3, be mental prepared:

  • Better English skills, more job opportunities and salaries. From I can see, people with good English skills used to get 50% - 1000% benefits compared with people cannot speak in English. Tech skills are the same, just know two languages!
  • Learning English isn’t very hard. And people used to say they don’t have an English environment to practice, now, you have one in LXDAO.
  • English is very important for communication, especially in Web3.
  • Be confidence, no worries about your grammar issues, etc. Feel free to correct others.

Then, with powerful AI tools like ChatGPT, there are no excuses that you cannot use English.

You could write in Chinese and translate by ChatGPT in 5s and copy and paste.

You could also paste a screenshot in ChatGPT and ask for the meaning, this is super useful for understanding the English culture and idioms, like this one:

You could use a Translation Extension like https://immersivetranslate.com/ (I used it a lot) to translate to Chinese easily.

Third, I used to hear a lot that using unfamiliar language will cool down the participation from the community. Same concerns happened when we were migrating community from WeChat to Telegram.

But from what I can see, we have a more active Telegram group than WeChat groups.

So, this convinced me to believe that English, Telegram, etc. are not limitations that stops talent people we need.

If you don’t know or want to learn English, if you don’t learn how to cross GFW to use Telegram, Web3 will be far from you. And you will be filtered out from the core Web3 ecosystem.

In the end, let’s try to use English often on the Forum. If you found some info in Chinese, you could remind the author with this thread. Just need a few seconds, you can translate and paste it. It would be good if you put the Chinese version below, all good.

As LXDAO’s influence continues to grow, I believe it is time to turn previous calls to action into a governance manual. It includes the following:

  • LXDAO forum titles should be consistently in English; Proposals should use both English and Chinese (English first); Replies have no specific language requirements, but more English usage is encouraged.
  • On Notion work pages, titles should be uniformly in English, but there are no requirements for content pages.
  • In the TG group, the General channel should consistently use English, while other channels have no specific language requirements.

Using English on the Forum and Telegram makes LXDAO more accessible to international members. This creates an open and welcoming space for individuals from different countries.
Besides, English is the standard in international forums, aligning LXDAO with global practices.

I fully support the idea of using English on the Forum and Telegram to make the community more welcoming for international members. However, I also understand that a transition period may be necessary to help everyone adjust smoothly.

For Example:
Starting an English channel on Telegram.
Continuous English Intensive Co-learning

I completely support LXDAO transitioning to English as it will open up more opportunities and room for growth. I think this change should start with our content output, like collaborative learning sessions and joint activities. However, since most of our members are Chinese speakers, switching to English won’t be easy. To make this transition smoother, we should start hosting some basic activities in English. Otherwise, if English-speaking users can’t get involved in what LXDAO does, simply using more English won’t really make a difference.
